Prequisites
The official reference for prerequisites is the College
Catalog.
- STAT 200/20010: no prerequisite
- STAT 118-119: no prerequisite, though a bit coding experience would
help
- STAT 220: one quarter of Calculus (MATH 131 or 151 or 161, or AP
Calculus)
- but Calculus is not used in STAT 220
- STAT 234: MATH 133, 153, 183 or 162
- STAT 244: Multivariate Calculus (MATH 184 or 19520 or higher)
- STAT 24410: STAT 251 or 25150
- STAT 245: STAT 244/24410 + Linear Algebra (MATH 19620 or 20250 or
STAT 243)
- STAT 24510: STAT 24410 + Linear Algebra (MATH 19620 or 20250 or STAT
243)
Anti-Prerequisites
- Students with credit for STAT 220, STAT 234 or more advanced courses
in Statistics cannot enroll in STAT 20000 or 20010
- Students with credit for STAT 234 cannot enroll in STAT 220
- Do NOT take both STAT 200 and 20010 (only one of them, but not both,
may count toward the 42 credits required for graduation)
- Do NOT take both STAT 220 and 234:
- Either STAT 220 or 234, but not both, toward the 42 credits required
for graduation.
- If one of STAT 220 and 234 is used to meet the requirement of a
major, a minor, or General Education, the other cannot count toward
another major or minor (e.g., one cannot take both STAT 220 and 234 and
use STAT 234 toward the Economics major and STAT 220 toward the
Statistics minor.
- Only one of STAT 244 and 24410, but not both, counts toward the 42
credits required for graduation
- Only one of STAT 245 and 24510, but not both, counts toward the 42
credits required for graduation
AP Statistics Credit
- Students with a score of 5 in the AP Statistics
test get an AP Statistics credit, which counts as one of the 42 credits
required for graduation
- An AP Statistics credit is (almost) equivalent to credits for STAT
220 which meets the prerequisite for some secondary Statistics courses
(STAT 222/224/226)
- Students will forgo their AP Statistics credit upon completion of
STAT 220 or 234
- If you have an AP Statistics credit, consult your academic adviser
and the Director(s) of your major(s) and minor(s) before taking STAT 220
or 234
- AP Statistics credit does NOT count toward the STAT minor
- The rules above do not supersede or replace the University’s
official rules on Placement
& AP Tests
STAT Major
- STAT 200, 20010, 118, 119 do NOT count toward the Statistics
major
- STAT 220 or 234 do NOT count toward the Statistics major
- a few STAT majors take STAT 220 or 234 in order to take STAT 224 and
some electives (STAT 222/226/27410) before completing STAT 244/245
- STAT majors are required to complete (either STAT 244 or 24410) and
(either STAT 245 or 24510)
STAT Minor
- STAT 20000, 20010, 244, or 24410 do NOT count toward the STAT
minor
- STAT 118-119 combined count as ONE elective for the Statistics
minor
- STAT 24500 or 24510, but not both, count toward the STAT minor
- STAT 220 or 234, but not both, count toward the Statistics minor if
both of the following are satisfied
- it is completed prior to any course for which STAT 220/234/245 is
prerequisite and before taking STAT 244-245 or 24410-24510
- if neither of them is used to fulfill a requirement for any
major(s), other minor, or general education requirements
- If one of STAT 220 and 234 is used to meet the requirement of a
major, another minor, or General Education, the other cannot count
toward the STAT minor (e.g., if one uses STAT 234 toward the Economics
major, he/she cannot use STAT 220 toward the Statistics minor.)
