STAT 200 and 20010
STAT 200 and 20010 do NOT count toward any major or minor. They do
not meet the prerequisite for any Statistics course. If you plan to take
any other Statistics course, do not take STAT 200 or 20010 and start
from STAT 220 or above
STAT 11800-11900 = DATA 11800-11900 = CMSC 11800-11900
- STAT 11800-11900 are required by both the Data
Science Major and the Data
Science Minor
- STAT 11800-11900 combined count as ONE elective for the Statistics
minor
- STAT 11800-11900 do NOT count toward the Statistics major
To Get a Minor in Statistics…
- if you have no AP Statistics credit, you should start from STAT 220
or 234
- if you have an AP Statistics credit, you can take the required STAT
224 (or the required electives STAT 222 or 226) directly without taking
STAT 220 or 234
- See STAT minor info webpages: http://www.stat.uchicago.edu/~yibi/STATminor/
for all you need to know about the STAT minor
- STAT 220 or 234 counts toward the Statistics minor with some restrictions
- Math Prerequisite: Although STAT 220 only requires
MATH 131 or 151, you need to take or have credit for MATH 132 or 152 or
higher to finish the STAT minor since STAT minor requires STAT 224 which
requires MATH 132 or 152 or higher
If You Want to Major in Statistics…
- STAT 244-245 (or 24410-24510) is required by the Statistics
major and the Computational
Applied Math major
- STAT majors can take STAT 244 after finishing Calculus (MATH 183 or
163) and Multivariate Calculus (MATH 184 or 203 or higher)
- A few Statistics majors take STAT 220 or 234 before 244 even though
STAT 220 or 234 doesn’t count toward the Statistics major.
- They do so because STAT 244-245 has a long prerequisite (3 quarter
of Calculus + Multivariate Calculus + Linear Algebra). This way they can
take the required STAT 224 and other electives (STAT 222/226/27410)
early before finishing STAT 245 since these courses only require STAT
220, 234 or 245
- Please read the college
catalog for Statistics and consult Yibi Huang (yibih@uchicago.edu)
if you want to major in Statistic.
If You Are Choosing Between the STAT Major and Minor…
Then start from STAT 220 or 234 (unless you have an AP Statistics
credit) while taking math prerequisites for STAT 244…
- With STAT 220 or 234, you can take STAT 224 and other electives
(STAT 222/226/27410) that count toward both the STAT major and
minor
- Many courses required by the Statistics major (Multivariate
Calculus, Linear Algebra, STAT 244, 251) do not count toward the STAT
minor
- Consult Yibi Huang (yibih@uchicago.edu)
