Statistics Job Listings

I've been looking at jobs, off and on, for a while. I got tired of remembering all the websites I use, so I created this page to compile all the links. While I've assigned each site a category, they are not exclusive. For instance, the IMS site has some non-academic jobs, even though it's "Primarily Academic". There is overlap between sites, particularly the Statistics Academic sites (IMS, Florida, Purdue), but it's best to check them all anyway. A decent number of postings appear on only one list.

Between these sites, academic coverage is pretty good. Nonacademic coverage is less so. The majority of industry jobs appear solely in newspaper online classifieds, such as the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, and San Jose Mercury News. So check the city papers. I usually search for "SAS" and "Statistics". Alternatively, you can use a recruiting service. In statistics, candidates don't pay fees.

I'm concentrating on the US and Canada, so this listing has very scattered coverage of the rest of the world. There are more services than the few I list below, and most concentrate on a given portion of the statistics world, so you might need to search.

Primarily Academic

University of Florida. Probably the most comprehensive list of large university academic positions, with a bigger selection of postdocs than other sites. There are also a few industry jobs.

Institute of Mathematical Statistics. Lots of research-oriented faculty positions.

Purdue University. Medium to large university academic positions, and some industry jobs.

Chronicle of Higher Education, Statistics listing. Smaller schools appear here more often than at IMS, Florida, or Purdue. Interestingly, the Chronicle appears not to have a biostatistics category.

AACSB International, the accrediting agency for schools of business. Like biostatistics, business schools have different criteria.

American Mathematical Society. Don't discount the math list; it has surprisingly many positions, particularly for small liberal arts colleges that are looking for one or two statisticians in a department of Mathematics. There's a Statistics button to sort.

Mathjobs. Most jobs posted are mathematics teaching positions, and a subset of the AMS listings above, but a few are unique to this site.

Mixed Academic and Industry

American Statistical Association Jobweb. Be sure to search BOTH the 65 word announcements and the online list; they have different listings. During the fall, faculty announcement season, this is heavily biased towards academia. In the rest of the year, it's biased towards industry.

Statistical Society of Canada. If you love hockey and say "zed", this is for you.

UCLA Biostatistics. Academic positions, postdocs, and industry jobs, primarily in biostatistics.

University of Washington at Seattle. A small list, with many repeats, but it also gets a few unusual jobs. It seems to have better international coverage than other places.

North Carolina State University. A small blog list. It appears to focus on the South and Mid-Atlantic.

National Institute for Statistical Sciences. Non-academic and academic listings of affiliates of the NISS.

Operations Research and Management Science. Operations research, decision science, and related jobs. Business schools place their statisticians in a wide variety of departments, some of which advertise here. Also, quantitative firms such as Google advertise here. The search engine is recommended.

American Psychological Association. There's a section for Quantitative and Psychometric jobs; like business schools, this appeals to only a subset of statisticians.

Math-jobs. Yes, the name looks the same as a listing above, but things are different. This one has a hyphen and a .com not a .org. More substantively, math-jobs.com is based in Switzerland and has a worldwide focus.

Primarily Industry

Smith Hanley Pharmaceuticals. Long term and contract biotech work.

Smith Hanley Business. Long term and contract corporate work, including marketing and credit scoring.

PhDs.org. Quantitative Analyst jobs, mostly. Lots of quants. A few other types of jobs and some non-statistics jobs are in this section, too.

SAS-Jobs. As would be expected, there's lots of SAS programming work here, but also some analysis gigs.

iCrunchData. Marketing, banking, biostats, and other industry work is here. It's still heavy on SAS, but not as much as SAS Jobs.

US Government jobs. Series 1529 and 1530 correspond to Mathematical Statistician and Statistician, respectively; enter them in the search field.
