Research Interests

My research focuses on statistical models and methods for spatial and spatial-temporal processes. In particular, I am interested in the nature of the spatial-temporal interactions implied by these models and on developing statistical methods for assessing these interactions. Computational issues that arise in implementing these methods (evaluating likelihoods, simulation methods) are a major component of my research.

My main motivation for studying spatial-temporal processes is to describe variations in the physical environment. Some of the processes my collaborators and I are currently studying include meteorology at very fine time scales, aerosol levels in the atmosphere (as measured by MODIS) and carbon fluxes between land and air.

Another general issue that interests me is the use of computer models for environmental phenomena such as air pollution and climate. I am especially interested in approaches to combining such generally deterministic models with statistical models as arise in problems of, for example, data
assimilation and design of computer experiments.
