GRE General Tests and the Mathematics Subject
Test
The GRE General Test measures skills that are acquired over a long period
of time and are not related to any specific field of study. The skills
measured include the test taker's ability to
(Analytical Writing:)
- articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively
- examine claims and accompanying evidence
- support ideas with relevant reasons and examples
- sustain a well-focused, coherent discussion
- control the elements of standard written English
(Verbal:)
- analyze and evaluate written material and synthesize information obtained
from it
- analyze relationships among component parts of sentences
- recognize relationships between words and concepts
(Quantitative:)
- understand basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data
analysis
- reason quantitatively
- solve problems in a quantitative setting
The GRE Subject Tests gauge undergraduate achievement in specific fields
of study.
The tests assess knowledge of subject matter emphasized in many undergraduate
programs as preparation for graduate study. Each Subject test is intended
for students who have majored in or have extensive background in that specific
area, including
- Biochemistry,Cell and Molecular Biology
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Computer Science
- Literature in English
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Psychology
